The weather couldn’t have been any better for the thirteen children who turned up to enjoy the wonders of nature in Childwall Woods last Sunday.
After Helen had checked everyone in & Pam’s health & safety helper had been chosen, they set off along the main perimeter path from The Lodge entrance, stopping to identify various trees along the way.
The children collected leaves from various trees, so they could study their shapes back at the gazebos where Andrew & David were patiently waiting for their arrival.
Pam was handed a beech nut from one of the children, including a leaf from a sweet chestnut tree & explained how they need to look very carefully at the differences in leaf shapes and their edges.
A short diversion brought them to a magnificent beech tree where they could clearly see the holes where the woodpeckers lived.
Then it was time for some welcome refreshments before making their woodland masks with a helping hand from parents.
A short talk about the do’s & don’ts of caring for hedgehogs was followed by a quick demonstration by Pam of how to make a model of an adult hedgehog from recycled materials.
David handed out some ‘googly eyes’ to finish their hedgehog sculptures & then it was time to mould some pink plasticine into a baby hoglet.
Pam thanked everyone for attending & handed out individual certificates as a thank you & reminder of a truly memorable day.
Pam wishes to thank:
